Gianfranco PiniFrom WooCommerce to Shopify for a Bologna footwear brand
An eCommerce evolution combining a WooCommerce-to-Shopify migration with work on catalog data, collections, and color and size variants.
The project at a glance
- Since 1958Footwear and a physical presence in Bologna.
- WooCommerce → ShopifyPlatform migration and a new storefront.
- CatalogReconciliation of products, variants and collection rules.
- Color and sizeOptions linked to standard Shopify data.
Starting point
Gianfranco Pini is a footwear brand rooted in Bologna, with a shop, outlet and online store. The project combined a move from WooCommerce to Shopify with a review of the shopping experience and catalog.
For a footwear store, the site must tell the brand story while helping customers navigate styles, colors, sizes and availability. The work covered both the storefront and the data structure behind it.
A footwear catalog depends on reliable data
Migration involves more than transferring product pages: products and variants need to be compared with their source, discrepancies handled, and collection rules checked.
Color and size need particular care: linking native options must preserve the existing combinations, identifiers and availability.
From a WooCommerce catalog to Shopify
The strategy combined a new storefront with data reconciliation and focused checks on exceptions.
The starting point
- WooCommerce store and catalog
- Products with many color and size combinations
- Categories and data to compare with the new structure
The Shopify work
- Shopify storefront for the brand
- Collection rules and tags checked against the source
- Standard color and size options linked without recreating variants
The work
Catalog reconciliation
Comparison of WooCommerce products with source references retained in Shopify and review of variants. Ambiguous matches were excluded from automatic updates.
Collections and navigation
Collection rules and tags were checked while retaining availability conditions; navigation to the men's collection was also updated.
Color and size options
Imported product options were linked to standard Shopify color and size data. Before-and-after checks confirmed that the affected variants retained their identifiers, SKUs, prices, availability and combinations.
Telling the brand story
The About page was updated with shop photographs and alternative text, alongside a navigation update for the blog.
The result
The work established a Shopify foundation for presenting the brand and managing a catalog organized by style, color and size.
The reconciliation was a point-in-time check: some source-data exceptions could not be resolved automatically. API checks on options alone do not replace visual verification of every product.
Consistent data behind a simple choice
When a customer selects a color or size, the product page, variant and availability need to work together. This project shows why the relationship between data and interface deserves attention alongside visual design.
No client financial data is published, nor commercial results attributed to a single intervention.
